Background and Experience:
Mr. Smola was employed by
United Air Conditioning Corporation for over eight years. Prior
to leaving Mr. Smola was Vice-President of Marketing and Director of
Engineering. Key responsibilities included quality control for
all projects, complete mechanical design, engineering, supervision and
project management for commercial, institutional and industrial
projects.
Mr. Smola was additionally responsible for the commissioning of systems
at the completion of construction to insure system operations.
The projects commissioned by Mr. Smola ranged from medium size projects
to 450,000 square foot commercial office buildings and 500 room hotels.
The types of systems included extremely sophisticated systems such as
chilled water storage and digital building management systems.
The design responsibilities included overseeing an engineering staff as
well as providing direct engineering for some projects. HVAC
system design included rooftop package units as well as central plant
systems utilizing chilled water systems.
In 1983, Kevin A. Smola and Associates, Inc was established.
Initial design work was provided for remodeling existing HVAC and
plumbing systems. Tenant development design was also
provided.
A new building was also designed in 1984 for the Telephone Employees
Credit Union located at 123 So. Marengo, Pasadena, California.
This 100,000 square foot building, although only four stories, was
designed as a high rise due to the requirements of the City of Pasadena.
Over the years, Kevin A. Smola and Associates, Inc. has provided
designs on small commercial and retail projects, as well as complex
system design for clean rooms and light process applications.
We have recently completed several projects in the education
field. This includes four schools for the Arcadia Unified School
District, four schools for the La Canada Unified School District and
others. We have also completed several projects for the Los
Angeles Community College District including new classroom buildings.
In addition to providing design services, Kevin A. Smola and
Associates, Inc. provides energy studies, feasibility studies and
forensic engineering services with most of our clients being the
insurance companies.
